March 29th : We drove to a campsite right outside Bryce National Park. As we drove to 5,000 feet, it started to snow and at 10,000 feet we were getting ice on the windshield. It was snowing so heavy, we couldn't see the mountains around us. Thank goodness the road wasn't too winding or steep!!! March 30th : We spent about 5 hours visiting Bryce National Park, one of my favorite places!! The Hoodoo's are different from the Hoodoos in Cappadoccia in Turkey, but just as beautiful. A Hoodoo is a pillar of volcanic rock which has been carved in a unique fashion by wind and water. However, the formations in Bryce Canyon were formed mostly by water. For 200 days a year, the temperature goes above and below freezing every day. During the day, melted water seeps into fractures only to refreeze at night, prying the rock apart. Rain water, which is naturally acidic, slowly dissolves the limestone, rounding off the edges and washing the small stones away. The day we toured Bryce Canyon the sun was shining brightly on the mountains giving them a brilliant color. Last year when we were here, it became overcast and then it started to pour with lightning and thunder!!! We almost didn't stop this time because of the snow we experienced on our way, so I am very happy we made the decision to stop!! March 31st : We left Bryce and traveled 300 miles to WMSC campsite. (Wal-mart Super Center). April 1st to April 3rd : After a quiet night, we drove through Denver to Monument, Colorado (50 miles south of Denver) to stay with our friends Sue and Bob Patha. They were one of seven couples of the bicycle group we were in for several years before we started to travel. We talked of old times over three delicious dinners. Sue and I had a great time going from one Hobby Lobby to another, to a Joanne's and a Wal-Mart to buy fabric and yarn for a couple of crafts I am making to sell at shows when I get home. Sue has been involved in craft shows for a while, so she gave me some pointers. Also, she showed me some pointers on the sewing project of mine. Thank you again Sue!!! Bob and Rudy decided not to come with us because they wanted to some "manly things" like computer projects and other technical "stuff!!" April 4th: We left the Pathas' and passed Pike's Peak which is the highest mountain in the Lower 48's. We stopped at Torrington about half way to Devil's Tower which is our next destination. We took a short ride to Nebraska to look around and came back to the "Free" Public Campsite Park. April 5th: We drove to Sundance, Wyoming, near Devil's Tower through snow, rain, and sleet. Before we set up the rig for our stay we found a do it yourself car/RV wash to get the mud and dirt off both the car and RV. We'll probably stay here for several days until this mass of very cold air moves east. Get ready New York, it will probably come your way soon!!!
