Well, let's remember that the 3 Schwenkers are the Boundless Crew! Things started differently for our 11th day out of Ft. Lauderdale. Ken arrived the night before by car. The car belonged to the people that owned the house where Ken chose to leave his boat to get out of the storm and to try and find Tom and me. Therefore, we had to wait till we could get a ride for Ken to get his boat. We made that happen around 7:30, about an hour later than we normally start. With Ken on the way in one direction around an island and Boundless going the other, our plan was to meet in the middle on the other side. Ah, the best laid plans....Tom and I on Boundless were just about ready to start moving away from the area on a small creek when we decided that we should have seen Ken by now. He didn't have a radio but he did have a cell phone. However, we were so far away from civilization the phone service was VERY spotty. We finally made contact and to make a long story short, spent about 4 hours on a rescue(not really) mission to get Ken who really didn't have as much fuel left as he thought after his 55 mile 2 hr trip from Charleston to Dataw Island that really took 5 hrs because of wind and waves in his small 1968 Boston Whaler. Once we got back to where he was anchored and put his boat in tow it was again off to Charleston again.....now, 12:00! We were certainly not going to get to Ken's but we should be able to make Charleston, 45 miles away. We did, about 8:00pm. We got Boundless settled for the night after trying to negotiate the last 10+ miles on a very dark night along the ICW....not recommended for the faint of heart! Once Boundless was settled for the night, Ken decided that he needed to go back home for the night because of an early meeting Monday morning. Tom and I decided to go with him so we could make a decision regarding moving Boundless to the marina next to Ken's place. More on this later. We had dinner onboard and left around 9:00pm for Ken's place, about 10 miles away very near the Stono River Inlet. Since his boat does about 25 mph he assumed it would take us about 1/2 hour. We got to his place at 11:00pm.....oh well. Being with the three Schwenker boys in a small boat, on an unfamiliar river, on a very dark night, near an inlet could be dangerous to your health. We didn't travel at high speed for very long. A wide meandering river with sand bars is not very wide in the middle of a dark night. We only ran aground once and we didn't go too far into the inlet before we found the channel to the marina near Ken's house. We relaxed finally and hit the sack! The entrance to the Folly River, Ken's place, was difficult to find at night but very easy in the daylight. We passed through the entrance at very low tide. Not deep enough for Boundless. However, with an almost 7 foot tide, we would not have a problem if we passed through the entrance at near high tide. The weather was to deteriorate late Monday; high winds, rain and thunderstorms. If we could get to the entrance at near high tide before the weather turned, we were going to leave Boundless near Ken's for a few days. More to come!
