February 18th-19th One Thousand Miles--Puerto Rico to Fort Lauderdale The skies are clear now, but yesterday we had rain, just enough to wash the salt off of the boat. We have been motor-sailing for a day and a half and at 7 p.m. on Friday the 18th, we finally turned the engine off. It is now Saturday morning (11 a.m.) the 19th and we are still sailing at about 6-7 knots with winds 8-15 knots. On the 18th, at about 11 a.m., we saw a pod of Dolphins that must have escaped from a Circus..... The huge pod of Dolphins came swimming from all directions to our boat. Ten of them swam abreast at the bow. Then 2 and 3 Dolphins would jump together and some of them would leap over each other. They also swam underwater on their backs and sides so you could see the whites of their bellies!!!! It was a real show!!! We now have a Gibbous moon and when it is overhead, the light shines on the sails and illuminates the whole boat!! We seem to glow as we slip through the dark night. Tonight our course seemed to follow the path of the reflection of the moon's light towards the horizon. It reminded me of the song "Yellow Brick Road!!" and I felt like Dorothy. I wish I had those red shoes!!! We also can see the artificial satellites blinking across the sky and the planets rising, glowing brighter than the stars!!! This is our entertainment during our watches at night...best show in the house!!!
