June 1st to June 30th Jaclyn and Jason's wedding was the most picturesque, tranquil, and spiritual wedding in the most beautiful setting I have ever been to!! Surrounded by tall redwoods, Jaclyn and Jason gave each other the most heart-warming vows after a beautiful ceremony, which Jaclyn composed!!! Jaclyn was a beautiful bride in her dramatic wedding dress over which she wore a stunning cape, which she designed. Inside the cape flowers and prayers were embroidered …..breathtaking!!! (Only a very small part of this is bias the rest is the Truth!!! Pictures to follow for proof!) It was also special because many of our friends and family honored us with their presence and their love!!! Since we were busy helping with the wedding and trying to get supplies for the boat, we didn't spend as much time with them as we had hoped!!! Jaclyn gave us a very unique gift the day after we arrived. After doing a couple of chores, she invited us to one of her Yoga classes…and Rudy went too!!! (He was the only male and did very well!!!) She then treated us to a Spa where we had a hot tub in a private room, which included a cold tub, a huge shower and a dressing area!!! After we were clean and relaxed, we each had our own massage!!! It was a fantastic way to relax and unwind from our 21-hour trip. It was truly a treat and the greatest luxury to help combat jet lag we have experienced!!! We ended the day with delicious Thai food. We had dinner with Shawn Sasse and Jon Cooksey from Sasse II who live in San Francisco the next night. We met them on Rum Cay Island in the Caribbean in 1999. They took us to Santana Row, a development Jon has been involved with for a while. It was very unique with wide streets for pedestrians, fancy stores, restaurants and entertainment on street corners. Phyllis and Tom Smith were the first to arrive. We showed them some local sights and had dinner at the hotel. The next day we went to an IMAX theatre to see the movie "Coral Reef," visited their museum and we even had a chance to ride a Segway, a two wheeled people mover!!! I tried to do some tricks and mowed down about three of the plastic cones!!! (no tickets were issued!!) On Thursday the 12th, Stacy, Rob, Gail and Jamilynne arrived. Jaclyn rented us a White Mustang convertible. (another gift!!) Well, Jami and Gail pulled up right behind Rudy in their rented Red Mustang convertible. We treated everyone to lunch and of course Rudy and I had a chance to race the Mustang convertibles. I won!!! That night we treated our friends and family who had arrived to dinner at a local brewery. It was noisy with spotty service but the food was good. The next night we had a rehearsal dinner where I spoke to the happy couple and presented Jaclyn with an afghan I made for her. I also gave her a journal that I had kept from the first day of her life until she was nine years old. I typed it and put it in an album with some memorabilia and pictures. She and her sister laughed at some of the experiences that they shared. I hope it will bring back many happy memories!!! Then we had pizza and bowled the night away!!! It was great fun and everyone seemed to have a great time!!! Who had high game? The WEDDING DAY!!!! The sun was shinning and Jaclyn was all aglow. They had the ceremony and reception at a park in Saratoga, California about 45 minutes from SF. For their wedding song they chose a song Jaclyn previously recorded which she wrote for their first Valentine's Day together. Her singing and guitar playing sounded professional and the words said it all!!!! We had more than enough delicious food, drink and cake!! Stacy looked very beautiful as Jaclyn's maid of honor. She and Rob were always on hand to help out!! Rob, how's that back coming??? Rudy's back is good now!!! After cleaning up, we went back to the hotel for a nightcap with our friends and then to bed….a very long day. The next morning, Rudy and I picked up some bagels and doughnuts and delivered them to the campsite for the newly married couple and their friends. We then went back to have breakfast with John and Lyn Somma and Jim Sutherland. Then we picked up a van and went to help clean the wedding site and pick up some items to bring back to San Francisco. We had dinner that night with the Somma's, Geri Allan and Bob. The next morning we all left for the airport at different times!!! Our first plane out of three to get back to Rome was to Chicago. We had one hour and fifteen minutes to catch our next flight from Chicago to Poland. The plane was 45 minutes late so Rudy and I ran out of the domestic terminal to the international terminal. We (I) cut in the line since the plane was supposedly boarding at that moment. We then ran to the hand luggage line and it was slow!!! I was then asked to take everything out of my hand luggage. I sent Rudy ahead to hold the plane. Since I was in such a rush, I didn't have time to fit everything back into the hand luggage. I must have been a sight with items hanging all over my arms and shoulders as I was running to the gate. I saw Rudy walking back so I thought we missed the plane. Good news…..the second plane was a half an hour late!!!! Bad news……we were so late they gave away our seats!!!! Fantastic news…..we were asked if we wouldn't mind sitting in First Class?!! We decided that was the best news of all for all the craziness we had just gone thru especially since it was a nine-hour fight to Poland!!!! Champagne, liquor, steak, movies the works!!!! After we settled into our hotel room, which was across the street from the Palace of Culture and Science, Rudy and I walked around the old town of Warsaw. We had a snack and a Pepsi in the Old Town Market Square after visiting St. John's Cathedral. As we walked through the streets, we noticed that most of the buildings were new since WWII. We then walked though the park and passed the grave of the Unknown Soldier. Later that night we ate at the London Steak House!! The taxi driver, who delivered us to the hotel, came the next day to give us a tour around Warsaw. We went to the Powazkowski Cemetary, the Wilanow Palace and the Lazienki Palace (very impressive) and Frederic Chopin's Museum. This was Chopin's home and it was full of artifacts and memorabilia wit h his music playing in the background. The next day we rented a car and drove to Krakow, Auschwitz and Birkenau (know as Auschwitz II). Over 300 barracks housed up to 100,000 people in Birkenau. We saw entire rooms full of shoes, twisted eyeglasses, tons of human hair (some blankets were made from this) and suitcases with the names and addresses of prisoners on them. They were told they were simply being relocated to a new town. These were collected to make use of later, which never came!!! It was a long car ride (only one speeding ticket!!) and a depressing visit to one of the worst crimes man has brought down unto man!!!! The next day we took it easy and went to the movies. First we went to see a movie that we were told was in English. It was for the first 10 minutes, and then it went into French with Polish sub-titles…not very interesting. We exchanged the tickets for "Chicago", which was playing that night. So we went to dinner in an authentic Polish restaurant (Restaurancja Polska). It not only had the most delicious food, but the setting was beautiful. We then went to see "Chicago" which Rudy and I thoroughly enjoyed. (only Polish sub-titles) The next day it was back to Rome and our boat!! The next few days we got Boundless ready again for sailing. We provisioned and got our heat exchanger repaired since the one we got in Brindisi was only "Gerry Rigged" and that is why the hoses came off when we left Gaeta. Rudy brought the car to Cannes, France to store for the summer while we are sailing. It took him a day and a half, using our car, taxis, buses and trains to get back to Boundless. After waiting for weather and changing our minds…..again …we left for Elba. The first stop was to Riva Di Trainano, which was 2 miles SSE of Civitavecchia Harbour. It had almost 1200 berths, many stores, restaurants and it was clean with many boat services. On June 30th we had planned to go to Giglio Island, but the forecast was for strong winds the next day. Therefore, we motor-sailed passed it and went straight to Elba. It took 12 hours in good winds and fair seas!!! We had dinner on board and settled in for the night!!!
